add a bulbous bow to a DDG-51 class destroyer in addition to the sonar dome.  I think the USN has tried to get the sonar dome to double as the bulbous bow, but it hasn't worked.

"I´ve never seen such a gigantic bulbous bow. " It's not all that different from those on the more recent oil tankers. Those you can easily see the tops of when the ship is running light.

The bulbs also by maritime considerations cannot protrude TOO far ahead of the bow, as in a collision, they'd function as a ram, holing a victim ship and greatly increasing the risk of sinking it. Too...

It isn't a good place for a sonar, wave breaking noise and slapping are too likely I suspect. We used to tow our sesimic arrays 10-30m under the surface in part to get away from surface noise.
